Another day, another Captain America Design
This time I tried to riff off of the Marvel Now design by jerome opena. There are a lot of elements about this costume i really like, but in execution, it’s just way too clunky and busy. And I understand the mentally to make his costume more soldier looking, but the closer it gets to being real-world-military-looking, the less I feel it looks like a superhero costume. The Ultimate’s Cap costume works perfectly in the setting of that world, the idea of a guy running around in pirate boots would look ridiculus. I love the Avengers film costume for that very reason, it completely doesn’t look real world, but has enough of reality but an incredible amount of superhero in it. its flashy, graphic, but obviously practical.
Mostly what I tried to do was just slim the costume down. Give it some simplicity and ease for drawing. And I added a bit of my flare and creative liberties, mainly to the boots and gloves.
And can I just say how much of a sin i find it to take away the Wings? I seriously dont get it. Would you take away batmans ears? i’d argue the same for superman’s hair curl, besides the fact of the travesty of it being gone now. These are incredibly iconic elements to the costumes of these characters. Not only that, but the wings serve the purpose to distinguish his silhouette. Without them, the silhouette of him, spiderman, ironman, silver surfer, etc. all look the same. I’m glad some artists like jrjr are still sneaking it in.
